Offered by Alberta Innovates
As hydrogen projects move from concept to deployment, many organizations run into the same challenge: the need for shared expertise, standards, and ecosystem support that individual companies can’t build alone. Alberta’s growing hydrogen economy is addressing that gap through the Hydrogen Centre of Excellence – Services Capacity initiative, which focuses on the foundational work needed to accelerate adoption across the value chain.
Delivered by Alberta Innovates, this program supports service-focused projects that strengthen Alberta’s hydrogen ecosystem rather than commercializing a single product. That can include technical and market studies, development of codes and standards, public awareness initiatives, opportunity identification, and other activities that create tangible benefits for the province. Funding support can reach up to around $500,000 per project and is provided as a non-repayable contribution, making it especially attractive for organizations taking on collaborative or pre-commercial work.
The program is relevant to a wide range of applicants, including clean technology and energy companies, industry associations, research organizations, post-secondary institutions, non-profits, and emerging innovators working in hydrogen-related technologies. Projects are typically completed within two years and are assessed on innovation, execution, and the impact they deliver for Alberta’s hydrogen strategy. With applications currently being accepted on an ongoing basis, this opportunity is well worth exploring if your organization is helping build the services and systems that enable a stronger hydrogen economy.
