Bringing a new food technology from concept to commercial reality often stalls at the pilot stage, where real-world testing and industry validation require more capital and partners than most startups can access alone. FoodTech Next is designed to bridge that gap for early-stage Canadian food and beverage technology companies that are ready to prove their solution in an operational setting. Delivered by the Canadian Food Innovation Network, the program focuses on helping innovators generate their first large-scale demonstration opportunities with players across the food industry.

The program supports projects that move beyond the lab and into practical use, particularly technologies that operate after the farm gate, such as processing, packaging, safety, logistics, or digital food systems. Funding is provided as a cost-sharing contribution, covering roughly half of eligible project expenses, with support that can reach up to about $250,000 for well-scoped pilots. This structure encourages collaboration between startups and industry partners while reducing the financial risk of testing new technologies in live environments.

FoodTech Next is open to qualifying startups from across Canada and is currently accepting applications through a staged intake process.
