Digital4Health – Disrupting Benefits Challenge

By GrantHub Research Team ·

Digital health companies tackling chronic disease often struggle to move beyond proof of concept and into real-world adoption. The Digital4Health – Disrupting Benefits Challenge is designed to bridge that gap by giving innovative solution providers the chance to validate their technology in a live benefits environment. Delivered by Alberta Innovates in partnership with Alberta Blue Cross®, this competition-based initiative focuses on digital tools that support the prevention and management of chronic conditions affecting today’s workforce and their families.

Through the program, selected small and medium-sized businesses can receive non-repayable funding of up to roughly $200,000 while piloting their solution with participating Alberta Blue Cross® plan sponsors. These pilots can run for up to two years, giving companies meaningful time to demonstrate outcomes, refine their technology, and build evidence around impact. The challenge areas emphasize behaviour change and wellness, including cardiovascular health, obesity, and long-term lifestyle management, making the program particularly relevant for health technology and IT-driven solutions with a strong data or engagement component.

Beyond funding, the opportunity to work directly with a major benefits provider can significantly boost market credibility and open the door to broader adoption across additional plan sponsors. For digital health businesses looking to scale in Alberta and prove their value in chronic disease management, exploring the full details of this challenge can help determine whether it aligns with their growth strategy.
