Offered by EMC - Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium
Manufacturers across Canada are feeling the pressure of skilled trades shortages, especially as advanced manufacturing technologies evolve and experienced workers retire. The WILWorks program — Skilled Trades in Advanced Manufacturing is designed to help address that gap by supporting employers who are willing to train and mentor the next generation of talent. Delivered by Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC), this national initiative helps manufacturing businesses bring young learners into real workplace environments while offsetting a portion of their wage costs.
Through WILWorks, manufacturers can receive a non-repayable wage subsidy of up to $5,000 to support an on-the-job training period of eight weeks or more. The program focuses on introductory, hands-on exposure to high-demand skilled trades such as industrial mechanics, millwrighting, and industrial electrical work, combined with flexible e-learning in mechanical, electrical, and machining fundamentals. Employers play a central role by providing mentorship and practical training, making it a good fit for businesses that want to build a long-term talent pipeline while strengthening their internal training culture.
The program is open to manufacturing employers nationwide and is particularly valuable for companies looking to develop future apprentices, upskill early-career workers, or test potential hires in a structured training setting. For manufacturers exploring workforce development options and wage subsidy support, learning more about how WILWorks operates can help determine whether it aligns with your staffing and growth plans.
