Trade-Impacted Communities Program — Community Economic Development

Offered by Government of Ontario, Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade

Ontario Advanced Manufacturing Automotive Biotechnology & Life Sciences Information Technology

Program Overview

Communities across Ontario facing uncertainty from U.S. trade disruptions are looking for ways to protect local jobs, strengthen supply chains, and open new markets. The Trade-Impacted Communities Program — Community Economic Development stream is designed to help regions respond quickly and strategically to these pressures by investing in projects that build economic resilience and reduce reliance on a single trading partner.

Delivered by Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, this stream supports locally led initiatives that benefit key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, automotive, agri-food, life sciences, technology, forestry, and natural resources. Funding can be significant, often ranging from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million per project, and in some cases can cover the full cost of eligible activities. Supported projects may include export development efforts, supplier and buyer matchmaking, market intelligence, site selection work, or local strategies that help businesses adapt to shifting trade conditions.

While funding is typically accessed by municipalities, economic development organizations, and industry groups, the intent is to create tangible benefits for Ontario businesses operating within affected communities. For companies navigating supply-chain challenges or exploring new markets, these projects can unlock new opportunities, partnerships, and supports. Learning how this program operates and how local initiatives are being developed can help you see where your business may fit into the broader picture.
