Offered by Prairies Economic Development Canada
Trade disruptions and new tariffs have created real pressure for businesses across the Prairie provinces, especially those tied to export markets or cross-border supply chains. The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), delivered by Prairies Economic Development Canada, was created to help organizations respond to these challenges by strengthening productivity, stabilizing operations, and adapting to changing trade conditions. It’s aimed at businesses and organizations that have been directly affected by tariffs or the uncertainty surrounding them and need capital to move forward rather than stand still.
RTRI supports larger, strategic projects, with total funding often reaching into the hundreds of thousands or even several million dollars. A portion of this support can be non-repayable, with contributions of up to about $1 million available for projects that deliver clear economic benefits, while additional funding is typically provided as repayable financing with flexible, interest-free repayment terms. Funding can cover a significant share of eligible project costs and may be combined with other government support, making it suitable for initiatives such as productivity improvements, operational upgrades, supply chain adjustments, or investments that reduce reliance on tariff-impacted markets.
The program is currently accepting applications and is particularly relevant for incorporated businesses, Indigenous-led organizations, and not-for-profits supporting Prairie-based companies. For organizations navigating tariff impacts and considering a major adaptation or investment project, learning more about how RTRI works can help determine whether this funding fits your next move.
