Offered by Prairies Economic Development Canada
Organizations that sit at the centre of innovation in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba often face a common challenge: having the resources to scale their impact as local businesses grow more complex and globally focused. The Regional Innovation Ecosystems (RIE) program was created to strengthen the networks, facilities, and services that innovative companies rely on, from early commercialization through to scale-up and market expansion. Delivered by Prairies Economic Development Canada, RIE focuses on building resilient, inclusive ecosystems that help Prairie businesses compete on a national and international stage.
This program is geared toward not-for-profit organizations such as accelerators, incubators, industry associations, and other innovation-focused groups that support businesses across priority sectors like clean technology, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, life sciences, and value-added agriculture. Funding support is non-repayable and varies by project, often covering a meaningful portion of initiatives such as expanding shared facilities, launching sector-specific programs, supporting technology adoption, or improving access to mentorship and commercialization expertise. A strong emphasis is placed on projects that help underrepresented entrepreneurs participate more fully in the innovation economy.
RIE is currently accepting applications and is best suited for organizations with a clear plan to address gaps or opportunities within their regional innovation ecosystem. For groups looking to expand their reach and better support growing Prairie businesses, exploring the full details of this program can help clarify whether it aligns with their long-term goals.
