Offered by Government of Nova Scotia, Department of Agriculture
For farms and agri-businesses in Nova Scotia facing pressure to adapt, improve operations, or plan for change, the Planning New Opportunities Program offers practical support focused on strategy rather than bricks and mortar. Delivered by the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, this program is designed to help agricultural businesses and organizations strengthen their competitiveness, manage transitions, and respond thoughtfully to evolving market and regulatory demands. It’s particularly relevant in times of growth, succession planning, or when new risks and opportunities are emerging.
Through the program, eligible farms, agri-businesses, agricultural associations, and Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities in Mi’kmaw communities can access funding support of up to about $15,000 per year, covering a significant portion of eligible planning costs. Funding can be used to bring in professional expertise, such as consultants who can help with process improvement, business and transition planning, or risk management strategies. The program also supports the development of food safety and farm health and safety plans, as well as translation services where language access is a barrier to growth or compliance.
The Planning New Opportunities Program is typically offered on a periodic basis and focuses on businesses meeting certain requirements within Nova Scotia’s agriculture and agri-food sector. For farm and agri-business owners considering their next strategic move, reviewing the full program details can help determine whether this planning-focused funding aligns with their goals.
