Perennial Crop Development Establishment

Establishing or expanding perennial crops can be a major investment for Prince Edward Island growers, especially when it comes to long-term infrastructure, planting costs, and modern production systems. Support is provided through non-repayable funding of up to roughly $20,000, covering about half of eligible project expenses. Businesses meeting certain requirements can use the funding to establish new perennial acreage, expand existing plantings, or invest in production technologies that improve efficiency, product quality, and market access. This can include items like planting materials, trellis and protection systems, ground cover, or technologies that reduce operating costs and add value to perennial crop operations. The program also emphasizes practices that improve soil health, reduce erosion, and make better use of water and nutrients.

Due to strong demand, applications for the current fiscal year are closed, with the program expected to reopen in spring 2026.
