Offered by Innovation PEI
Reliable, high‑speed internet is no longer a nice‑to‑have for communities in Prince Edward Island—it’s essential for economic development, access to services, and keeping local businesses competitive. To help close connectivity gaps, Innovation PEI established the PEI Broadband Fund for Internet Service Providers, aimed at supporting projects that expand or improve broadband infrastructure across the province, particularly in underserved areas.
Through this initiative, eligible internet service providers and project partners could receive non‑repayable funding to offset a significant portion of their infrastructure costs, often covering up to half of approved project expenses. The fund has focused on practical investments such as last‑mile connections and backbone infrastructure that increase service levels, expand access, and improve consumer choice, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of existing networks. Collaboration between ISPs, communities, and other eligible organizations has been a key feature, reflecting the province’s goal of building sustainable, widely accessible broadband networks.
As of April 2025, the PEI Broadband Fund for Internet Service Providers is under review and is not currently accepting new applications, though previously submitted projects continue to be assessed under existing guidelines. For ISPs and partners planning future broadband investments in Prince Edward Island, understanding how this program operates—and whether it may reopen or evolve—can be an important part of long‑term planning, making it worthwhile to explore the full details and potential next steps through GrantHub.
