Offered by Innovate BC
For clean technology and energy companies working in British Columbia’s coastal and marine environments, securing a real-world pilot can be one of the biggest hurdles to commercialization. The Integrated Marketplace: COAST Innovation Challenge was created to address that gap by connecting B.C. innovators with a pressing operational need from the Canadian Coast Guard: reducing reliance on diesel power at remote, land-based sites along the province’s coastline. Delivered by Innovate BC in partnership with COAST, the challenge focuses on practical, deployable solutions that can perform in difficult and isolated marine settings.
The program is particularly relevant for small and medium-sized businesses developing renewable energy generation, energy storage, or energy management technologies. Selected companies are supported to demonstrate modular, scalable systems that improve energy resilience while advancing decarbonization goals in coastal operations. Funding of up to around $100,000 is available on a non-repayable basis to help offset demonstration and pilot costs, making it easier for innovators to prove performance, validate their technology, and move closer to commercial adoption.
While this challenge is not always open to applications, it represents a strong opportunity for B.C.-based energy and cleantech firms aligned with marine and remote infrastructure needs. For businesses interested in future intakes, understanding the project scope, competitive selection process, and funding structure in more detail can help determine whether this challenge fits their commercialization strategy.
