Future Farmer Program

Starting or scaling a farm operation in Prince Edward Island comes with steep learning curves and upfront costs, especially for new producers building skills, systems, and long-term plans. The Future Farmer Program, delivered by the PEI Department of Agriculture and Land, is designed to ease that transition by helping early-stage farmers strengthen the business side of their operations while investing in practical, on-farm improvements that support long-term sustainability and profitability.

Through this program, eligible agricultural producers can access non-repayable funding for a mix of hands-on projects and professional support. Funding can help cover continuous improvement initiatives on the farm, often with support of up to around $10,000 per project, as well as smaller amounts for training, coaching, and skill development. Additional support may be available for business or succession planning, laboratory testing, and participation in farm risk management programs, allowing new farmers to make informed decisions as they grow. The program is structured to support both brand-new entrants and those who have begun generating farm income but are still early in their careers.

Due to strong demand, the program is not accepting applications for the current fiscal year, with reopening expected in April 2026.
