Offered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
For many Canadian startups, innovation moves faster than their ability to protect it. Whether you’re developing new technology, software, or proprietary processes, understanding how to safeguard and leverage intellectual property can be the difference between scaling successfully and losing competitive ground. ElevateIP was created to help early-stage, innovation-driven businesses build that capability, offering both funding support and hands-on expertise to strengthen how IP is managed from the outset.
Delivered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada through a network of business accelerators and incubators across the country, ElevateIP focuses on practical, tailored IP support. Startups can access guidance on building an IP strategy, improving awareness of patents and trademarks, and taking concrete steps to secure and maintain their rights. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, the program works through regional organizations to ensure supports are aligned with each startup’s technology, market, and growth plans. Funding is non-repayable and varies by project, often covering specialized services, education, and implementation activities that would otherwise be costly for young companies.
Because ElevateIP is available nationally and designed with inclusive access in mind, it can be especially valuable for startups preparing for investment, partnerships, or international expansion. Understanding how this program fits into your broader growth strategy starts with exploring the specific supports available through your local accelerator or incubator.
