Offered by Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Rural businesses across Atlantic Canada often face unique challenges when it comes to accessing capital, expertise, and local economic support. The Community Futures program is designed to address those gaps by strengthening small businesses and encouraging job creation in rural communities throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. Delivered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency through a network of more than 40 Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs), the program takes a community-first approach to economic development.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, Community Futures connects entrepreneurs with locally based CBDCs that understand regional industries and market realities. Businesses can access a mix of financing options tailored to their projects, along with hands-on business counselling, skills development, and practical coaching. Support is available both for entrepreneurs launching new ventures and for established businesses looking to expand, modernize operations, or improve long-term sustainability. Because each CBDC operates at the community level, funding and support are shaped by local priorities and business needs.
For rural business owners who want more than just capital, Community Futures can act as a long-term partner in growth. Understanding how your local CBDC operates, what types of projects are supported, and how financing is structured is the next step in deciding whether this program fits your plans.
