BioCreate Program

For life sciences and cleantech companies that have moved beyond early research and are now focused on commercialization, the BioCreate Program offers a rare blend of capital and hands-on support. Led by Ontario Genomics, this initiative is designed for small and medium-sized businesses in southern Ontario working with genomics or engineering biology solutions in health, food and agriculture, and clean technology. It targets innovations that have already demonstrated technical feasibility and are ready to be shaped into market-ready products.

BioCreate provides non-repayable funding of up to about $150,000 to help offset the cost of an 18-month commercialization project, with participating companies expected to bring meaningful matching resources to the table. What sets the program apart is its emphasis on execution and growth: funded businesses gain access to experienced mentors, sector-specific expertise, and critical infrastructure through Ontario Genomics’ network of regional and industry partners. Support can include guidance on regulatory pathways, intellectual property, and investor readiness, all aimed at positioning companies for follow-on financing.

The program runs in cohorts with a rolling intake and concludes with an investor showcase, giving founders the chance to pitch to potential partners and investors.
