Agriculture Research and Innovation — Applied Research (Agricultural Producers)

On Prince Edward Island, many farm operators are looking for practical ways to test new ideas, respond to climate pressures, and improve productivity without taking on all the financial risk themselves. The Agriculture Research and Innovation — Applied Research stream is designed for producers and agri-businesses who want to carry out short-term, on-farm research that delivers real-world results for the PEI agriculture sector. Led by the Department of Agriculture and Land, this program focuses on applied projects that can strengthen competitiveness and profitability at the farm level.

Support is available to cover roughly half of eligible project costs, with funding reaching up to about $40,000 for well-designed research initiatives. Projects often explore areas such as crop or variety trials, pest management strategies, pollination improvements, climate adaptation, or diversification into new crops, livestock, or agri-based products. The program also recognizes the importance of turning research into action, with support for information sharing and knowledge transfer that helps findings benefit the wider agricultural community.

This funding is non-repayable and geared toward producers and organizations that can demonstrate clear economic value for PEI agriculture. While applications for the current cycle have closed due to high demand, the program is expected to reopen in 2026.
